Role Scope
The Commercial Analyst supports strategic sourcing and procurement activities, particularly in the context of new business opportunities. The role provides structured analysis, data modelling and process support across due diligence, supplier evaluation and contract implementation to enable effective commercial decision-making.
Role Positioning
The role is primarily a support and enablement role. The Commercial Analyst contributes accurate analysis, structured data and documented assumptions so that senior team members can make informed commercial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing Support (New Business)
- Support sourcing activity for new business opportunities, including RFPs and client bids. Assist in gathering supplier information, market data and cost inputs. Contribute to sourcing strategies under guidance and support mobilisation following contract award.

Commercial Due Diligence Support
- Assist in data gathering, cost analysis and validation for due diligence activities. Build and maintain cost models and pricing inputs based on defined assumptions. Highlight potential issues or inconsistencies for escalation.

Contracting and Procurement Processes
- Support supplier selection processes through data preparation and analysis. Assist in evaluating supplier proposals against defined criteria. Contribute to documentation and tracking of procurement activities and contract implementation.

Commercial Analysis and Reporting
- Develop standard financial models, reports and analysis outputs. Translate data into structured insights to support senior team members. Ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency of analysis.

- Documented methodology and assumptions
Savings Tracking and Benchmarking Support
- Track savings against defined baselines and methodologies. Support benchmarking by collecting and analysing market data. Apply existing frameworks to assess value and competitiveness.

- Audit trail documentation
Risk Identification and Support
- Identify potential commercial or supplier risks within assigned work areas. Escalate risks to senior team members. Support risk logs, reporting and mitigation planning as required.

Tools, Systems and Data Management
- Use existing tools, templates and systems to support analysis and reporting. Maintain data accuracy across multiple sources and identify process inefficiencies or testing needs.

Stakeholder Support
- Work with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and provide analysis. Support meetings through preparation of materials and data insights. Build effective working relationships within project teams.

Key Skills and Experience
- Experience in commercial analysis, procurement, sourcing or finance-related roles.
- Strong analytical and numerical capability, with ability to work accurately across large datasets.
- Experience working with Excel and data modelling tools, including structured assumptions and validation checks.
- Understanding of sourcing, RFx and procurement processes.
- Ability to work within structured frameworks, methodologies and governance requirements.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with ability to support stakeholders clearly and professionally.

- Collaborative and responsive to direction from senior team members.
- Developing commercial awareness and ability to understand how data supports commercial decisions.

Role Scope and Accountability
Work Scope
- Works on defined tasks or components of sourcing, due diligence and analysis activities.
- Does not own end-to-end commercial workstreams unless specifically delegated.
Decision-Making
- Supports decisions through accurate analysis, structured data and clearly documented assumptions.
- Commercial decisions, supplier commitments and strategic direction are escalated to senior team members.
Outputs
- Supports delivery of commercial outputs such as models, trackers, analysis packs and reporting materials.
- Senior stakeholders retain accountability for final recommendations and outcomes.
Methodology
- Operates within established methodologies, templates and governance frameworks.
- Methodology changes require review and approval from the relevant senior owner.
Risk
- Identifies and documents risks within assigned work areas.
- Risk acceptance, mitigation ownership and external communication are escalated appropriately.
