- Location: Three days per week onsite at Kilburn. The role may require the successful candidate to travel across the estate as per requirement of the role.

Role Description
This role is an integral part of Commercial Services. In 2020, the MPS Commercial Function revised its operating model, establishing six Pillars which have overall accountability for activity covering the commercial life cycle, as well as relevant Business Partnering responsibilities across the wider business. There are two vacancies for this role which are within the following Pillars:
Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) Pillar
This role supports all aspects of Category, Sourcing and Contract Management within the Commercial Services DDaT pillar. This is an exciting and varied role, which will give you the chance to support all aspects of the commercial life cycle within MPS. You will provide essential commercial support to senior commercial staff within the Commercial team and the wider business, working on specific tasks within the DDaT Solution Delivery category.
You will contribute to delivering Commercial Excellence for providing a customer-focused service, understanding the business need and stakeholder drivers, with the aim of becoming a trusted commercial advisor. You will also support the development of relationships with MPS’s key and strategic suppliers, driving value for money and risk management excellence across the category.

The role will enable you to develop your skills, experience and knowledge of business, commercial and procurement principles, processes and practices. It will also provide training opportunities for your continued professional development.
Primarily, your activity and support will be to sourcing, procurement and contract management teams and staff, working across the life cycle to give strategic advice on major programmes and helping to define the 'needs' on BAU requirements, through the contracting process and onto commercial contract management.
Corporate and Professional Services (CaPS) Pillar
The Corporate and Professional Services Commercial team is service led and people focused. Procuring and managing some of the most strategic suppliers and critical contracts, including temporary labour, legal services, consultancy services, learning and development, BPO services, travel, HR services, media/communications, finance/insurance, occupational health and IPR. The team maintains a flexible resource model, working collaboratively across the organisation to lead commercial delivery across the entire commercial life cycle. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of 15 that is working at pace to deliver a high quality, end-to-end commercial service, supporting the to be a world leader in policing by engaging effectively with our markets and suppliers to deliver positive outcomes through commercial policy.
The CaPS Commercial team has two sub-pillars which are made up of:
- Corporate Services
- Professional Services
This role will predominately support the Professional Services sub-pillar and you will be a key part of the team and have the opportunity to develop your career, learn new skills in a supportive environment, enabling delivery of some of the most exciting projects in policing today. No two days are the same and you will gain invaluable commercial experience, helping to deliver policing projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The Professional Services team are responsible for sourcing people via temporary labour, a range of consultancy services to deliver on the Commissioner’s mission: More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards, legal services, training and learning and development services.

- Working closely with the Transformation Directorate to support and help achieve the aims of the for London change programmes.
- Improving and simplifying how we work to establish best practice and deliver a consistent approach.
- Delivering market solutions through innovative sourcing to deliver best value for the organisation.
- Providing innovative and flexible commercial solutions and forming strong relationships with stakeholders and suppliers to deliver a World Class Commercial Capability and Function is a key objective for the team.
Key Responsibilities
What does the average day look like? Your core duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Providing administrative support to commercial colleagues on an ad-hoc basis as part of the team supporting business as usual and project activities
- Strategic delivery and management of the category:
- Assisting with development of category strategies for all relevant expenditure
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant contracts
- Understands relevant sourcing options, and delivers positive outcomes through the procurement process:
- Supporting the Sourcing process for a wide range of procurements, such as market engagement, supporting negotiations and assessing procurement routes.
- Maintaining routine catalogues within commercial systems to ensure they are up to date, liaising with colleagues as necessary
- Ensuring effective Commercial Contract and Supplier Management within the category:
- Undertaking contract management actions such as contract administration, monitoring supplier performance and managing supplier relationships
- Providing Commercial support and guidance to a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Enabling and developing the MPS:
- Analysing data from corporate commercial systems (on/off contract spend) to help identify and drive value for money, efficiency and best practice opportunities
