WSP Investment & Transaction Advisory has a strong focus advising clients on strategic development of transport, mobility and industrial activities. We differentiate ourselves by combining commercial, technical and operational expertise in order to create more value for our clients in a sustainable way. Many of our clients are at the forefront of the move towards a low carbon future, we are working on a number of ground breaking projects across the UK and Europe.

Role

We are currently recruiting a Senior/Principal Consultant to play a significant role in the future success of our due diligence and wider advisory team. As part of this role you will be working with infrastructure investors, lenders, international finance corporations and financial advisors. Your role will involve:

  • Advising clients on commercial, market analysis and feasibility advisory assignments across transport, renewable energy and complex infrastructure sectors.
  • Leading the development of financial and commercial models that support business plans, market studies and due diligence reports which ultimately inform significant financial investment or policy decisions.
  • Presenting analysis at client meetings and within public facing reports, conveying complex commercial and/or technical issues in a clear and concise format.
  • Working with our senior team to provide insightful responses to client requests for proposals and continue to win work in new areas on complex transactions and cutting-edge policy development.
  • Leverage the 60,000 strong internal domain experts and specialist consultants to translate engineering concepts into robust model inputs and find answers to complex problems.
  • Possibility of travel overseas for projects (we typically undertake 2 or 3 day client trips, for kick-off meetings/site visits and/or final client presentations).
  • Continual professional development support and training, including Chartered Management Consultant status.

OUR TEAM

The Investment & Transaction Advisory team has a strong track record of supporting clients at the early stage of projects such as feasibility plans, market forecasts as well as technical assessment of complex projects. Our key clients cover a wide range of different organisations in the private and public sectors. Key clients include financial institutions (pension funds, investors and financiers), operators (ports, rail, buses, highways and mobility) and wider industry.

The Advisory team is currently diversifying from a strong transport client base and has successfully developed its expertise into new sectors, namely industrial clients, major government programmes (e.g. Port Infrastructure Fund, UK Freeports) as well as mobility and core+ sectors.

We are regularly involved from project origination through to completion, as well as during asset optimisation and modernisation and/or expansion of existing facilities. Our front-end consultancy is supported by 60,000+ technical specialists globally. Our offer includes transaction services (including PPP), investment advisory, market studies, demand forecasting, technical and financial feasibility and management consultancy services.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

  • A self-starting approach.
  • Ability to quickly synthesise large amounts of information and new concepts.
  • Degree level education in economics, engineering or similarly quantitative, analytical subject.
  • Being comfortable working with large datasets and/or programming languages such as Python or R and/or visualisation packages such as Power BI would be desirable.
  • An interest, or experience working across the transport, renewable energy and infrastructure sectors, in particular infrastructure investment.
  • A track record of working on financial and other analytical models for net zero, transport or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of specialist modelling including scenario analysis or Monte Carlo analysis would be desired.
  • Experience working in a leading consultancy or other professional services firm.
  • Experience in delivery of workstreams or elements of workstreams to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate your analysis in presentations and reporting to senior management audiences.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills in English is required and additional language skills would be desirable.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of all major relevant software packages (Word, Powerpoint etc.), and an expert in Excel with demonstrable knowledge of spreadsheet modelling best practice.
