We’re the leading owner and operator of battery storage in the UK, supporting the National Grid with the uptake of renewable power. We also work with c.90% of the UK's major bus companies, powering 25% of the UK e-bus market. We’re also the number one owner and operator of e-buses in Australia and New Zealand, and are quickly expanding into light commercial vehicles and trucks. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

The Opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Commercial and Investment Manager with experience in the renewable energy and battery storage market to support the growth of the Network Infrastructure business. Reporting to the Director of Business Development the candidate will bring a strong understanding of electricity markets, financial modelling and the commercial drivers of energy infrastructure projects.

Working with the Network Infrastructure Chief Commercial Officer and wider BD team, the role will focus on evaluating investment opportunities, financial modelling, M&A activity and supporting commercial transactions. The role will work closely with Corporate Finance, Legal, Engineering, Procurement and Construction to assess and deliver complex, high-value battery projects. The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running and be comfortable operating at pace, with ambiguity and competing deadlines.

A Taste of the Day to Day

  • Supporting origination and working on the development of transmission and distribution level large scale energy storage projects in the GB, US and more
  • Financial modelling
  • Developing commercial propositions and managing relationships to secure contracts
  • Leading or supporting Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Market fundamentals driving storage revenues in GB
  • Analysing consultant revenue forecast and methodologies
  • Understand the impact of regulatory and policy changes on storage assets
  • Developing compelling propositions and competitive bids in international markets, especially in innovative areas for storage such as stability, restoration, reactive power and new constraint management services
  • Preparing high quality internal Investment Committee papers
  • Utilising financial models with the support of finance teams
  • Leading project acquisitions
  • Supporting corporate finance team to raise debt on portfolio of projects
  • Monitoring and awareness around commercial, regulatory and policy development on projects
  • Supporting day-to-day business case development activities of projects until the closure
  • Contributing to the strategy process
  • Liaising with international teams to support day-to-day business case development activities of projects until the closure of the deals
  • Developing sales and marketing materials, speaking at and attending conferences as appropriate
  • Developing strategic partnerships to support the scaling of the business
  • Line management of associate in the team

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills

  • High quality education (bachelor’s degree or masters) preferably in engineering, economics or finance related
  • A genuine passion in clean energy and our social and environmental mission
  • Solid work experience (5-10 years) in commercial / international business development in the energy sector preferably in energy storage or renewables sectors
  • M&A experience, ideally in energy storage or renewables
  • Strong financial modelling experience
  • Strong energy market fundamentals skills and been involved in providing or analysing revenue forecasts
  • Strong commercial skills – comfortable with legal contracts, drafting proposals, and project financing
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting financial models and sales pitches
  • Strong organisation skills, team player and good attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the US, Europe and Australia energy landscape highly beneficial
  • Ability to work in the HQ in London/Hybrid and travel internationally
  • Desire to work in a fast moving, high pressure and entrepreneurial environment
  • Outstanding Excel and PowerPoint skills
