I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience aligned to our core services is as critical as strong interpersonal skills, stakeholder management capability, and leadership qualities.
Across all grades, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in commercial strategy, procurement, commercial management, or supply chain within construction and infrastructure, ideally as a client or consultant.
- Hands-on delivery of complex procurements: route-to-market strategy, live tender management, evaluation panel coordination, and contract award.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the Construction Playbook, Sourcing Playbook, Procurement Act 2023, and other key government guidance/policies.
- Experience working on programmes with significant capital spend and an understanding of the commercial pressures that come with that scale.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to build a well-reasoned commercial case and communicate it clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery - producing advice that is technically sound and executed, with an eye for risk.
- The interpersonal credibility and emotional intelligence to build trust quickly at senior client level and operate effectively in complex stakeholder environments.
At senior grades, you will lead engagements as the primary point of contact for programme directors and senior stakeholders, while managing and mentoring teams.
