Job Description
The Commercial Application Scientist role at LGC or equivalent experience is exceptionally outstanding, offering the opportunity to blend scientific expertise with strategic sales initiatives in a collaborative and ambitious environment. This position is built to support our revenue and margin goals while improving market development. As a pivotal member of our team, you will collaborate closely with Account Managers, Scientists, Marketing, and other sales professionals to drive our success.
Essential Functions
- Sales Support: Provides technical sales assistance aimed at achieving the company’s revenue and margin targets. This role engages clients from executive leadership to laboratory teams, identifies appropriate solutions, quantifies their value, assists in proposal development, and plans implementation to drive sales success. The discovery phase and its findings are encouraged to result in specific products and features in the proposed solution. Metrics from this phase should be used to prepare detailed value propositions and demonstrate returns on investments within the proposal. Implementation and project plans are developed in accordance with the client’s operations, facilities, and timelines. You will work alongside Account Managers to coordinate technical methods, resources, and projects throughout the sales cycle.

Solution Engineering: Identifies, clarifies, and communicates outstanding client requirements to the LGC team. Determines relevant solution options to satisfy client needs. This often involves the identification and testing of a laboratory client’s assays within the framework of the LGC solution. The Application Scientist will lead and manage this process with support from the broader LGC team. When external third-party products or services are necessary, this role conducts evaluations to validate and recommend options. Prepares relevant implementation plans for assigned accounts and briefs service and science personnel on customer requirements before shipment and installations. This effort involves coordination with the Account Manager, Science, Service, and Engineering to ensure solutions align with product plans, schedules, and budgets.

Industry Knowledge: Maintains a strong understanding of industry trends, laboratory technologies, and scientific applications. Also knows client operations, processes, and competitive offerings. This knowledge helps position LGC products to prospects. Represents LGC effectively at briefings, meetings, and trade events.

Other Duties as Assigned: Respond flexibly and collaboratively to business needs, both internal and external. Address important corporate initiatives when management requests it.
Geography
This role focuses primarily on support of customers and sales opportunities throughout Europe, Middle East, and Africa, and other geographies, as needed. To best support LGC’s primary targets for business growth, the ideal candidate must reside in The United Kingdom, Germany, or Denmark.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in biosciences or related field, or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years of market-facing experience in a laboratory environment
- Demonstrated laboratory process knowledge
- Advanced experience in genotyping, chemistry, oligonucleotides, and NGS, along with demonstrated deep scientific knowledge of IVD, biopharmaceutical, and biotechnology workflows and tools
- Prior technical sales support and relationship management
- Strong computer skills required, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; multilingualism is preferred
