About Flare
Flare Electrical & Solar Contractors Ltd is a specialist renewable energy contractor delivering commercial Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and LED lighting projects across the UK.
We work with developers, main contractors, EPC contractors, local authorities, commercial property owners, education providers, healthcare organisations and industrial businesses, delivering projects ranging from commercial rooftop installations through to utility-scale solar farms. Recent projects include the successful delivery of a 17MW solar farm electrical package, with a further 150MW+ of utility-scale projects secured or in delivery, alongside numerous commercial Solar PV, BESS and LED lighting installations for schools, leisure centres, care facilities, commercial developments and storage facilities.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager to take over an established role, maintaining existing client relationships while identifying new opportunities and helping drive the next phase of the company's growth.
The Role
This role combines account management with proactive business development.
You will inherit existing client relationships, live opportunities and an established CRM pipeline while developing new business across the commercial renewable energy sector.
Working closely with the Director, Operations Director, Estimating team and Project Managers, you will identify opportunities, build long-term client relationships and manage projects from initial enquiry through to project handover. Your objective will be to secure profitable Solar PV, Battery Storage (BESS) and LED lighting projects while developing your own portfolio of repeat clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across the commercial, industrial and public sectors.
- Build and maintain relationships with Main Contractors, Developers, EPC Contractors, Asset Owners, Architects, M&E Contractors, Consultants, Energy Managers, Facilities Managers, Estates Managers, School Business Managers, Property Managers and Commercial & Industrial businesses.
- Generate opportunities through LinkedIn, Barbour ABI, planning portals, networking, referrals, framework providers, strategic partnerships and targeted business development activities.
- Monitor planning approvals, construction activity and market intelligence to identify future project opportunities.
- Attend client meetings, networking events and industry exhibitions (including events such as Solar & Storage Live) to develop relationships and promote the Flare brand.
- Meet prospective clients to understand their requirements and recommend appropriate renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions.
- Work closely with the Estimating team by sharing tender documentation and assisting with the preparation of quotations and tender submissions for Solar PV, BESS and LED lighting projects.
- Manage the sales process from initial enquiry through to contract award and project handover.
- Maintain accurate CRM records using GoHighLevel, including pipeline management, forecasting and sales reporting.
- Develop long-term relationships with existing clients to encourage repeat business and framework opportunities.
- Identify strategic partnerships and framework opportunities that support the company's long-term growth.
- Provide regular sales, pipeline and business development updates to the Directors and Operations Director.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
