Commercial Catering Engineer
Location: Field-based across London
Employment type: Part-time
The opportunity
An established restaurant group is looking for an experienced Commercial Catering Engineer to maintain and repair catering equipment across its London locations.
This is a hands-on, field-based position focused on keeping busy commercial kitchens safe, compliant and fully operational. You will work directly with restaurant teams, taking ownership of planned maintenance, fault-finding and urgent equipment breakdowns. Rather than travelling between unrelated customers, you will support a defined portfolio of restaurants and build strong working relationships with the operational teams at each location.
What you’ll be doing
- Servicing, maintaining and repairing commercial catering equipment.
- Diagnosing faults across gas and electrically operated appliances.
- Working with commercial fryers, grills, ovens, cookers and refrigeration equipment.
- Completing planned preventative maintenance and safety checks.
- Responding quickly to breakdowns to minimise disruption to restaurant operations.
- Carrying out electrical and mechanical fault-finding.
- Supporting minor HVAC, plumbing and general facilities maintenance where appropriate.
- Coordinating specialist contractors when additional support is required.
- Ensuring all work meets relevant gas, electrical, health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining accurate service, repair and compliance records.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
