Commercial Co-Founder — Equity Only | Electronics Retail / Fintech | Pre-Seed

I'm building Techster — checkout infrastructure that helps independent UK electronics retailers keep customers at upgrade, instead of losing them to Amazon, Currys, or the carriers.

Worth knowing up front: this is equity only, no salary until the round closes. If you need income now, this probably isn't the right stage for you to join — better to say that clearly than waste your time.

The problem

UK independent electronics retailers sell a device once, then lose the customer at upgrade — usually 24 months later — to Amazon, Currys, or a carrier. That's hundreds of thousands of upgrades leaking out of the independent retail channel every year.

What Techster does

Techster embeds into retailer checkouts and gives customers device subscriptions plus upgrade credit that accumulates over their device cycle — redeemable only at the same retailer. By upgrade day, leaving means walking away from value already accumulated toward the next device. It embeds retention into the economics of the checkout itself, rather than relying on points, email marketing, or brand affinity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What I need

Someone who has personally closed a commercial deal with a UK electronics retailer, mobile carrier, or device distributor — and can name it, the counterparty, and what they personally did to get it signed. You directly know commercial officers, heads of e-commerce, or CEOs at these companies — relationships built through deals you've done, not LinkedIn connections. The initial mandate is to secure one credible retailer pilot or LOI, and help shape the commercial proposition required to get it signed. Everything else follows from that.

You'd be focused on:

  • Retailer partnerships and LOIs
  • Commercial strategy and go-to-market
  • Industry and investor relationships
  • Business development with distributors and finance partners

Essential background

  • At least one named commercial deal you personally closed with a UK electronics retailer, mobile carrier, or device distributor
  • Direct commercial experience in consumer electronics retail, telecoms, device distribution, embedded finance, or checkout partnerships — general SaaS sales without direct sector experience won't be sufficient
  • A network you can call this week, built from deals you've actually done
  • Startup or early-stage experience a strong plus, not a substitute for the above

Who this role is for

Most likely a fit if you've personally closed deals from inside:

  • Currys / Dixons / Carphone Warehouse
  • A mobile carrier (O2, EE, Vodafone, Three)
  • Electronics distribution or device wholesale
  • Embedded finance or checkout partnerships (e.g. Klarna, Raylo, similar)
  • Independent phone retail groups

What's on offer

Co-founder level equity, tied to delivery and vesting. You'd be shaping the company from day one, not joining a finished product — and the equity reflects what you actually bring to the table, not what a conversation promises.

Interested?

Send me:

  • One commercial deal you personally closed with a named UK retailer, carrier, or distributor — the counterparty, your role in closing it, and the outcome
  • Why this specific problem interests you

Happy to have an informal call first — no pitch decks, just a conversation.
