As our Commercial Compliance and Second Line Assurance Lead you will;

• Lead independent second line assurance activities across commercial operations, providing oversight and challenge to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and our risk appetite.

• Design and deliver risk-based assurance reviews, assessing the effectiveness of controls, identifying areas for improvement, and driving sustainable actions that strengthen compliance and governance.

• Provide expert guidance and practical compliance advice to commercial teams, supporting pricing, sales, contracting, incentive schemes, and customer-facing activities to achieve positive customer outcomes.

• Review, monitor, and maintain commercial contracts and governance frameworks, ensuring contractual obligations, milestones, and regulatory requirements are effectively managed.

• Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial compliance risks through horizon scanning, risk assessments, trend analysis, and the escalation of emerging issues where appropriate.

• Build trusted relationships with colleagues across Commercial Services, Risk, Legal, Audit, and senior leadership teams, offering constructive challenge while promoting collaboration and shared accountability.

• Produce clear and insightful assurance reports, presenting findings, recommendations, and risk insights to governance forums, risk committees, and senior stakeholders.

• Champion a culture of compliance, accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus, helping Yorkshire Water achieve its ambition of being 100% compliant, 100% of the time.

What Skills & Qualifications You Will Need

• Significant experience in compliance, risk, assurance, or audit within a regulated or commercially complex environment, with a strong understanding of governance and control frameworks.

• Proven experience delivering second line assurance reviews, providing independent oversight, challenge, and recommendations that drive improved business performance and compliance outcomes.

• Strong knowledge of commercial compliance risks and controls, particularly across areas such as sales, pricing, contracts, products, and customer-facing operations.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex processes, interpret data, identify emerging risks, and recommend practical solutions.

• A strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks, with experience applying policies, standards, and controls to support positive customer and business outcomes.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence, challenge, and build credibility with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.

• Strong report-writing and presentation skills, able to translate complex findings into clear, concise insights and actionable recommendations for a range of audiences.

• A professional qualification, or working towards one, in compliance, risk, audit, governance, or a related discipline would be advantageous, alongside a pragmatic approach that balances regulatory expectations with commercial objectives.

You will also benefit from having:

• Professional qualification Auditing, IRM, CIM or equivalent professional experience.

• Experience in the Water or Utilities sectors, or comparable businesses in size or complexity.

• Full valid driving license as occasional travel to operational sites across Yorkshire is required.

• Proficient user of Microsoft Office packages; Excel, Project, Power BI, PowerPoint and Word and user of GRC systems.
