We are looking for a Commercial Contracts Director to join our successful Finance team.
This role is home based with occasional travel to our offices required.
Role and Responsibilities
Inspired is looking to recruit a new Commercial Contracts Director for the Group. This role will lead the end-to-end commercial and contractual strategy for the business, balancing risk management, revenue growth, and governance across all client, supplier, and partner agreements. The role will oversee and provide governance for the entire contract lifecycle — from contract set up, execution and in life contract management through to account settlement. This senior leadership role protects the company’s commercial positions and revenues, optimises profitability, and ensures compliance with regulatory and legal frameworks. The role will also work with the CFO to ensure that Inspired is compliant with all relevant regulatory regimes, particularly that of the energy market regulator, Ofgem.
The successful candidate will be required to:
Commercial Risk and Contract Governance
- Strengthen contract governance, templates, and compliance frameworks across all aspects of the Inspired business activities.
- Work with the business units to establish a standardised framework of commercial terms, master services agreements (MSAs), and statement of work (SOW) templates.
- Define acceptable liability positions, indemnities, intellectual property (IP) rights, warranties, and dispute resolution processes.
- Lead the drafting, review and execution of high-value client contracts, supplier, and partner agreements.
- Ensure all new Inspired customer contracts are standard and are being issued with an appropriate set of Terms and Conditions'
- Create an appropriate authority matrix (DOA) / process to deal with any required variations to the standard Inspired T&Cs during a sales process.
- Create and own a central repository of all current Inspired customer contracts, including documenting required action plans where adequate Terms and Conditions may not be in place and ensuring risk mitigation plans in place.

Regulatory and Legal Compliance
- Ensuring full integration and compliance with the forthcoming introductions of new OFGEM regulations around TPIs (Third Party Integrators).
- Own the governance, process and controls with regards to data sharing across the Inspired business and sub entities ensuring optimal commercial outcomes.
- Ensure all legal issues are raised early across the Group and dealt with optimally including client disputes, payment disputes, contract disputes and legal actions etc.
- Own the relationship with our external lawyers and ensure value for money.
Pricing Governance
- Take ownership of standardising pricing models and contractual terms, establishing clear product governance across all operating subsidiaries.
- Audit current pricing models across the Group and design and implement standard pricing structures for the entire product portfolio.
- Provide input, definition and standard taxonomy to the product definitions and HubSpot systems architecture as the new CRM system is implemented across the Group.
- Define and enforce clear commercial governance, delegation of authority (DoA) matrices, and approval workflows within HubSpot (CRM system).
Revenue and Margin Optimisation
- Ensure, where appropriate, all RPI increases have been applied to contracts where RPI clauses exist and ensure inclusion in all future contracts.
- Document a process to ensure that customer consumption is being correctly measured and work with finance colleagues to verify supplier commissions and take appropriate commercial actions.
- Work with the Inspired Assurance Service delivery team to ensure that all savings from levy exemptions have been collected from energy suppliers.
- Defining rules and optimal margin positions for new product packages (e.g., solar PV + battery storage + automated peak-shaving software).
- Support the development of a standarsised cost to serve model with Finance.
- Rationalise complex energy commercial structures into standard CRM product rules, including:
- Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs) with guaranteed savings.
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and asset-leasing arrangements.
- Shared-savings and outcome-based pricing models.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Essential
- Educated to degree level in Commercial Management, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of contract law, risk allocation, and standard industry contract structures.
- Good command of financial reporting, cost management and margin enhancement.
- Senior-level experience, leading commercial and contract management functions on large-scale, high-value portfolios.
Desirable
- Professional chartership (e.g., RICS, IACCM/World Commerce & Contracting, or Solicitor qualification) is highly desirable.
- Experience of working in a commercial capacity for a business-to-business service provider with a complex variety of products which are cross-sold into a customer base.
