The Role
We have a thrilling opportunity to join the University of Bristol as an experienced Commercial Contracts Officer in the Procurement Team. We’re looking for a candidate who can provide expertise in supplier management which evidences ability to influence and drive decision-making, commercial acumen and have experience of managing contracts through the contract lifecycle.
As Commercial Contracts Officer you will collaborate closely with Suppliers, building managers, and operational teams to help ensure our facilities and buildings are maintained to the highest compliance and safety standards. This supports the University vision of providing world-class research and teaching spaces.
You will report into the Commercial Contracts Manager, which forms part of a newly created Commercial and Contract management discipline. You will work closely together to provide contract specific advice, support and updates to Departmental Heads and Managers in Property Infrastructure Teams. You will also partner with colleagues in wider Campus Services and in the Procurement Team, with the aim of ensuring we have high performing frameworks and contracts, that deliver and exceed contractual commitments with our suppliers / contractors.
The University has expanded its portfolio with the new Enterprise Campus Sloane Robinson Building in Temple Quarter. This role will proactively support the management of the Hard Facilities and compliance servicing contract and provide contractual expertise for escalation of contractual issues internally and from Supplier.

What Will You Be Doing?
- Contract lifecycle activities, including mobilisation, onboarding suppliers, creation of contract management plans, stakeholder management, leading supplier review meetings, contract extension, exit and termination.
- Work closely with the Commercial Contracts Manager to help manage and report on contract performance, including scorecards, risk reviews, and providing solutions for successful contract delivery.
- Promoting best practice with contract management practices and providing commercial expertise and support to stakeholders, to help drive value for money and benefits aligned to business plans.
- Ensuring contractual commitments and stakeholder needs are met, holding suppliers to account on performance, time and cost, via KPI performance monitoring.
- Co-ordinate change negotiations and variations to ensure contract changes are tracked and conditions updated.
You Should Apply If
- Thorough proven experience working within contract management, procurement related discipline, and strong communication and negotiation skills to drive positive outcomes and influence decisions.
- You can demonstrate business acumen / commercial awareness, and can assess financial, operational and strategic risks and support mitigation strategies and deliver cost improvements.
- You have experience of supporting implementation of complex contracts across multiple sites and suppliers through building strong relationships.
- You are a self-starter, with a growth mindset, able to work with minimal direction to resolve complex issues and also a supportive team player, able to provide new ideas and solutions.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and IT skills, to interpret performance data and report on findings.
- You are educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in Contract Management, Supplier Management, Asset Management.
- Some knowledge and experience of using contractual terms and conditions (construction contracts such as JCT / NEC would be advantageous)
