Job Purpose

Supports the successful commercial delivery of projects and contracts by providing accurate cost control, financial reporting, project controls coordination, and commercial administration. The role acts as a key link between project delivery, commercial, finance, and operational teams, ensuring consistent commercial processes, robust reporting, effective working capital management, and compliance with contractual and business requirements.

Responsible for supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, invoicing, change management, and project controls activities while driving continuous improvement, digital adoption, and commercial governance across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Cost Management

  • Prepare and issue accurate client and internal cost reports, including trend analysis, risk commentary, and performance narratives.
  • Establish and maintain project budgets and forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets, forecasts, and contractual targets.
  • Analyse cost performance, margins, variances, and profitability, providing clear recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Support the preparation, verification, and submission of estimates, quotations, and variation orders.
  • Identify, track, and report changes, risks, growth opportunities, and commercial variations.
  • Maintain contingency allowances, risk registers, and change tracking.
  • Prepare timely and accurate client invoicing.
  • Support commercial close-out activities, ensuring all contractual and financial obligations are completed.

Project Controls

  • Coordinate project controls activities, including cost management, planning, estimating, and change control.
  • Work closely with planning teams to integrate cost and schedule information, supporting Earned Value Management (EVM), Value of Work Done (VOWD), and other project performance metrics.
  • Support stage gate reviews, project assurance activities, and project governance processes.
  • Drive adherence to the Project Controls Reporting Calendar.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of project controls processes and reporting standards.

Financial Reporting & Working Capital

  • Support month-end reporting processes, including cost accruals, Work in Progress (WIP), and Profit & Loss (P&L) reporting.
  • Maintain ownership of WIP reporting and monitor debt management (DSO), escalating issues where required.
  • Provide regular reporting on gross margin, forecast performance, and budget variances, including mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate forecasting and budgeting activities in line with business reporting cycles.
  • Prepare reporting and supporting commentary for Monthly Performance Review (MPR) meetings.
  • Provide forward-looking financial analysis and early warning of emerging commercial risks.

Commercial Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with customer contract terms, company commercial procedures, and Delegation of Authority (DOA) requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with commercial and project controls processes.
  • Maintain commercial documentation, templates, and reporting standards.
  • Lead annual rate reviews and ensure approved rates are maintained within business systems.
  • Support pre-contract commercial activities, including rate build-ups, bid submissions, and governance reviews.

Operational Coordination

  • Act as the commercial focal point supporting operational delivery teams.
  • Chair or coordinate regular WIP, cost reporting, and commercial review meetings.
  • Monitor purchase order management and commercial performance across assigned projects.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Finance, and Commercial teams to improve commercial performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and cost savings.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in a commercial, cost control, project controls, or project coordination role.
  • Good understanding of commercial management and project controls principles.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using ERP, cost management, or project management systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
  • Experience within engineering, utilities, energy, or construction environments.
  • Experience with digital reporting platforms such as Slingshot, Power BI, or similar.

  • Office-based
