Commercial & Data Protection Associate – Bristol / Exeter
Location: Bristol or Exeter – Hybrid Working
PQE: 3+
A well-regarded and growing national law firm is looking to recruit an experienced Commercial & Data Protection Associate to join its expanding Commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience and a strong background in commercial contracts and data protection to take on high-quality, varied work within a supportive and commercially focused team.
The role offers hybrid working, with candidates required to be within commutable distance of either Bristol or Exeter. You do not need to be able to commute to both locations.
Working closely with experienced Partners and colleagues across the wider team, you will play an integral role in advising a diverse client base, ranging from entrepreneurial businesses and growing companies through to major national and international organisations.
The Role
You will advise clients across a broad range of non-contentious commercial matters, with particular emphasis on commercial contracts and data protection.
Your work is likely to include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.
- Advising on data protection and data privacy issues.
- Drafting and negotiating SaaS, software, hardware, maintenance and support agreements.
- Advising on goods and services agreements.
- Drafting and reviewing agency and distribution arrangements.
- Advising on data processing and data sharing provisions within commercial contracts.
- Reviewing and negotiating data protection warranties, disclosures and related provisions in transaction documents.
- Supporting clients on technology and IT-related matters.
- Working with clients to understand their commercial objectives and provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.

About You
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with at least 3 years' PQE, with a strong track record in commercial contracts and data protection.
You are likely to have:
- Solid experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of data protection and privacy matters.
- Experience advising businesses on a broad range of commercial issues.
- An interest or background in technology and IT-related work.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
- A commercial and pragmatic approach to providing legal advice.
- Strong communication and client relationship skills.
- A genuine interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business development.

Experience gained within a national, international or leading regional law firm would be advantageous, although candidates from a range of backgrounds will be considered where they can demonstrate the required commercial contracts and data protection experience.
