Pangea is partnered with a leading specialist investor and asset manager in the energy transition is hiring a Commercial Lead to take ownership of commercial performance across a growing UK battery energy storage (BESS) portfolio. This is a high-impact leadership role with significant scope to shape revenue strategy, optimisation, contracting and regulatory positioning across multiple revenue streams—working at the intersection of trading, optimisation, finance, regulation and operations.

The Role

  • Lead, mentor and develop a small team of commercial/asset managers, setting clear objectives and performance standards.
  • Act as senior escalation point for commercial and contractual matters.
  • Drive commercial optimisation and revenue strategy across multiple revenue streams.
  • Own and oversee contract management (incl. trading/route-to-market arrangements) and commercial operations.
  • Support monthly/annual auctions and qualification across relevant schemes (e.g., CM, DC and other NESO-related auctions).
  • Lead the annual portfolio budgeting process.
  • Oversee portfolio insurance strategy and negotiations.
  • Supervise monthly reporting with strong commercial commentary; contribute to investor reporting and internal performance reviews.
  • Partner with finance on settlement, reconciliation, and invoicing (e.g., NG contract revenues, imbalance, embedded benefits).
  • Provide ad-hoc project support (e.g., new management systems, construction projects, new revenue opportunities, re-optimising the fleet).
  • Help improve integration across teams and locations to strengthen commercial execution.

  • 5+ years’ relevant experience in trading, optimisation, market data, or a regulated environment (energy/power highly preferred).
  • Proven people leadership experience (developing and managing a small team).
  • Strong analytical capability and ability to provide in-depth commercial analysis.
  • Degree in a numerical/technical/financial/science discipline (IT/data science backgrounds also considered).
  • Confident stakeholder management—able to represent the commercial function internally and externally.
  • Highly organised, proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable in a fast-evolving market environment.
