Commercial Director

London or Leeds (National Role) Executive Leadership Opportunity

This isn't just another Commercial Director position.

This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's fastest-growing energy and decarbonisation businesses at a pivotal moment in its journey.

As Commercial Director for Dalkia Energy Services, you'll report directly to the Managing Director, sit on the Senior Leadership Team and play a defining role in shaping the future of the business. You'll influence strategic direction, drive commercial excellence and lead the teams responsible for delivering some of the UK's most significant decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and engineering projects.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to combine strategic leadership with hands-on commercial influence.

You'll lead our Commercial, Procurement and Document Control teams, ensuring commercial excellence across a diverse portfolio of complex engineering and infrastructure projects.

Working alongside Operations, Finance, Business Development, Technical and Legal teams, you'll provide the commercial leadership that enables sustainable growth while protecting the business commercially and contractually.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead the Business

  • Be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping shape business strategy and long-term growth.
  • Influence expansion across healthcare, district heating, industrial decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and emerging low-carbon technologies.
  • Drive commercial input into business planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Develop and implement a strategic procurement function that delivers value through supplier partnerships, drives cost efficiencies, strengthens supply chain resilience and supports the successful delivery of complex engineering and energy infrastructure projects.

Build a High-Performing Commercial Function

  • Inspire, mentor and develop an exceptional Commercial team.
  • Lead Procurement and Document Control functions, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Develop succession plans and future leaders.
  • Improve commercial processes, systems and ways of working.

Drive Commercial Performance

  • Improve project profitability, forecasting accuracy and cash generation.
  • Ensure transparent commercial reporting across the business.
  • Provide commercial leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Deliver best-in-class commercial governance and controls.

Protect the Business

  • Lead negotiations on major client contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Provide expert guidance on NEC4, JCT and bespoke commercial contracts.
  • Manage commercial risk across the business.
  • Lead the resolution of major commercial disputes and claims when required.

Shape Procurement Strategy

  • Develop procurement strategies that support sustainable growth.

About You

You'll already be operating in a senior commercial leadership position within engineering, infrastructure, construction or the energy sector and be looking for an opportunity where your influence genuinely matters.

You'll bring:

  • Significant senior commercial leadership experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure or energy.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts (bespoke commercial contracts involving third-party financiers would be advantageous)
  • Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing contractual risk.
  • A track record of improving commercial performance and delivering business transformation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to simplify processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing high-performing teams.
  • Commercial acumen combined with strategic thinking and strong business judgement.
  • The credibility to influence at Board and Executive level.
