COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR – DATA CENTRES | MERIDIAN ONE
Reading, Berkshire | Full-time | Office based
Build the customer base for a major UK data centre development.
MERIDIAN ONE is recruiting a Commercial Director to lead the customer and revenue strategy for a planned 100 MW data centre campus in Hickstead, West Sussex, with an anticipated development programme of approximately £1 billion.
We are looking for someone who understands how data centre capacity is sold, knows the buyers and can turn a development proposition into credible customer commitments. Working directly with Yassin El Naggar and the project leadership, you will own the commercial opportunity from first approach through negotiation and contract execution.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Join at the development stage and help shape the proposition, target customers and route to market. Your base will be our Reading office at Enterprise House, 95 London Street, with customer meetings, industry events and project site visits as required.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Develop and execute the commercial strategy for the campus and its phased capacity.
- Build relationships with hyperscalers, cloud and AI businesses, colocation operators, enterprise customers and relevant channel partners.
- Identify anchor customer opportunities, qualify requirements and manage a disciplined sales pipeline.
- Translate customer needs into commercial proposals with the engineering and project teams, including power, cooling, resilience, phasing and delivery requirements.
- Lead customer outreach, presentations, site visits, RFP responses and commercial negotiations.
- Progress opportunities through confidentiality agreements, proposals, heads of terms and binding contracts with the appropriate legal and leadership approvals.
- Develop pricing and deal structures with finance, balancing revenue, margins, customer commitments and development funding requirements.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, next actions and reporting to leadership.
- Provide market feedback that informs design, product positioning and the development programme.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
