Overview

Coming from a consultative Sales or Business Development background, the Commercial Finance Broker will focus on prospecting for new clients, performing outbound sales activity, and developing inbound leads through to completion. Key to the role is working closely with our clients to understand their needs and partnering with them to select appropriate finance packages (full training is given on all our finance solutions services to equip you with all the necessary tools and knowledge).

As part of the role, the Commercial Finance Broker will explore and investigate client circumstances with a view to progressing to a commercially viable asset finance solution. In addition to new business focus, the Commercial Finance Broker will also conduct outbound/renewal activity on clients who have previously been in contact with Portman, positioning our solutions effectively to open new opportunities and win new business.

In your first fee-earning year as a Commercial Finance Broker, with our uncapped commission, you could earn up to £100,000, £125,000 in year two, and £150,000+ in year three. The on-target earnings are achievable and realistic as the majority of the company’s employees exceed their yearly targets. This role is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop your sales abilities in a leading UK commercial finance brokerage.

Development

With our Commercial Finance Broker role forming part of Career Development Pathway via our Sales Manager Fast-Track Programme, we will provide you with:

  • Inhouse Training from our Sales Director and Managing Director and the opportunity to complete an LIBF Diploma in Asset Finance
  • An 18-month progression pathway into a Sales Manager role with the opportunity to build and manage a team upon completion

Responsibilities

  • Provide seamless sales services to new clients via inbound channels from initial enquiry through to sales closure
  • Conduct outbound sales activity to establish rapport and interest within potential new clients, ultimately building a pipeline and securing new business wins
  • With a customer-centric approach, progress clients through our sales process, including gathering sales intelligence and objection handling, as well as exploring and promoting up-sell and cross-sell opportunities
  • Write and prepare proposal documentation and credit applications, including working with clients to gather appropriate financial and non-financial paperwork
  • Work closely with our panel of lenders to secure client finance, documenting key actions and tasks throughout
  • Record all sales activity in our CRM
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of live opportunities
  • Any other appropriate job duties in line with the associated skill and experience of the post holder

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
