About the Role

We are a fast-growing technology business seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Commercial Finance Manager as a partner to the CFO to automate and drive commercial value from the finance function. This is a key role that understands finance processes and can translate that to business outcomes including leveraging AI and automation to deliver significant improvements to how we support the business and drive efficiency in finance. This would suit someone with AI experience and a real desire to make change.

Working closely with the CFO, the Commercial Finance Manager will lead the execution of core finance activities including monthly reporting, cash flow forecasting, reconciliations, and budgeting support. This role also includes the management of our offshore finance operations team, ensuring they are aligned and delivering to expected service levels.

Specialist Skill Sets and Responsibilities

Management Reporting & Financial Controls

  • Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Own balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
  • Oversee the general ledgers and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements in finance systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Document finance procedures and support internal compliance.
  • Map finance processes end to end, with the time and cost attached to each, and build the business case for removing manual work — measured by the effort and cost taken out.
  • Own the finance automation roadmap, working with our technology team to apply AI and automation to reconciliations, statements, payment instructions, recharges and reporting.

Team Management

  • Manage and coordinate the offshore finance team, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of transactional finance tasks (e.g. AP/AR, reconciliations).
  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for the offshore team, reviewing outputs and providing guidance as needed.
  • Ensure communication and alignment between the offshore team and internal finance processes.

Transactional Finance Oversight

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely invoicing, payment runs, and debtor management.
  • Manage bank reconciliations, cash flow forecasting, and weekly cash monitoring.
  • Support in preparation of VAT returns and other statutory filings.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support the CFO in preparing annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts and five-year plans.
  • Lead the tracking of actuals vs budget and preparing variance analysis, aligning with business unit heads and delivering insight driven departmental reports.

Systems and Tools

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to own the integration between our finance systems and the wider business tools (e.g., CRM, project management software).
  • Support the CFO in building reports and analysing data using Excel and internal platforms.

  • Continuous improvement – Proactively identify improvements and drive the implementation of standard processes within the UnderTheDoormat Group Team.
  • Commercial data excellence – Understand our data deeply, use it to help deliver increased revenue and EBITDA for the business and be able to report on trends and related solutions. You will own the quality of data in our systems for your area.
  • Personal development – Participate in any personal development and training that is identified to help you carry out your role more effectively, as well as delivering any team training within your areas of expertise as and when required.

What We Are Looking For

Specifically;

  • Part-qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA, or qualified AAT with relevant experience.
  • Experience working in an SME or multi-entity business environment is desirable.
  • Prior experience managing or coordinating with offshore or outsourced finance teams is a strong plus.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, basic modelling).
  • Experience with Xero, NetSuite, or similar cloud-based accounting systems.
  • Exposure to international operations or multi-currency environments.
  • Interest in technology and improving finance through systems and automation.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Good communicator, comfortable working with remote teams and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, hands-on, and open to working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Someone who thrives under pressure and with constantly changing dynamics
