About Monocon
Monocon International Refractories Limited designs and produces high-quality, cost-effective refractory solutions for high-temperature process industries worldwide. Our market sectors include steel, aluminium, cement, foundry, and special alloys. We strive to deliver innovative and efficient refractory products to meet the diverse demands of our global clients.
The Opportunity
Monocon International Refractories Limited is looking for a Commercial Finance Manager to join our team. The company has ambitious growth plans, and we need a commercially minded accountant who can add real value and help take the business to the next level.
This is a front-end role. You will work closely with departments across the business to make sure senior management receives timely, accurate information to base decisions on.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director and leading a small team, you will be responsible for producing the monthly and annual management reports and the Statutory Accounts. You will be the link between finance and the wider business, reviewing and questioning the numbers as well as preparing them.
This is not a typical accounting role. Beyond producing reports, you will be involved in costing, material consumption analysis, cost reviews, purchasing, and a variety of commercial activities that influence key business decisions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
