Commercial Finance Manager

Location - near Weybridge, Surrey
Salary - £65K to £70K DOE
Working Pattern – Hybrid role (3 days in the office)
Start Date – As soon as possible

I am delighted to be supporting this fantastic business with the appointment of a Commercial Finance Manager. It's a great opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation where finance is a genuine driver of strategic decision-making and growth.

Role Purpose

This is a highly commercial, hands-on finance role that plays a key part in driving business performance through insightful analysis, financial control and strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will go beyond producing financial reports, taking ownership of understanding the drivers behind revenue, profitability, margins and costs. They will work closely with senior leaders and operational teams to identify opportunities for growth, improve performance and support informed decision-making. The role is focused on providing visibility of financial performance, cash generation and future outlook, ensuring that finance acts as a true commercial partner across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Finance & Business Performance

  • Produce monthly management accounts with clear analysis of revenue, gross profit, margins, overheads and profitability.
  • Analyse performance against budget, forecast and prior year, identifying key drivers and variances.
  • Develop and monitor financial and operational KPIs.
  • Analyse profitability across clients, contracts, divisions, sectors and revenue streams.
  • Partner with leadership teams to identify opportunities to grow revenue, improve margins and increase profitability.
  • Provide commercial challenge and financial insight to support decision-making.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the operational drivers that influence financial performance.
  • Promote a data-led culture where business performance is actively understood and managed.

Commercial Planning & Forecasting

  • Own rolling forecasts covering revenue, profitability, operating costs and cash flow.
  • Support annual budgeting and strategic planning processes.
  • Develop financial models and scenario planning to assess growth opportunities, pricing decisions and investment plans.
  • Provide forward-looking analysis to identify future risks and opportunities.
  • Support investment decisions through robust financial analysis and modelling.

Profitability, Pricing & Cost Management

  • Monitor gross margin performance and identify opportunities to improve returns.
  • Support pricing decisions with commercial and financial analysis.
  • Review the performance of key clients, contracts and revenue streams.
  • Identify cost pressures, inefficiencies and opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Work closely with operational stakeholders to assess the financial impact of business activity.
  • Develop initiatives that drive margin improvement and maximise return on investment.

Management Reporting & Leadership Support

  • Deliver monthly management reporting and performance packs.
  • Produce board-level reporting covering P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPI performance.
  • Translate financial information into meaningful commercial insights and recommendations.
  • Support senior leadership meetings with analysis of performance, trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide clear visibility of performance against strategic and financial objectives.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Manage cash flow forecasting and provide visibility of future cash requirements.
  • Drive improvements in collections, debtor performance and working capital management.
  • Monitor debt, debtor days and cash conversion metrics.
  • Work with operational teams to improve cash generation.
  • Assess the cash impact of significant business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cash efficiency and reduce financing costs.

Financial Control & Compliance

  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Support audit processes and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Ensure robust financial controls are maintained as the organisation continues to grow.

Systems, Data & Process Improvement

  • Improve financial reporting and data quality across business systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and streamline processes.
  • Enhance data accuracy, consistency and visibility.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to support business performance.
  • Continually review finance processes and systems to ensure they support growth and operational efficiency.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong background in management accounting and commercial finance.
  • Proven experience analysing revenue, profitability, margins and costs.
  • Strong forecasting, budgeting and financial modelling capability.
  • Commercial mindset with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate financial analysis into practical business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical ability and advanced Excel skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within recruitment, staffing or contractor-led environments.
  • Experience analysing contract, client or divisional profitability.
  • Experience supporting pricing and commercial strategy.
  • Exposure to integrated finance, CRM and operational systems.
  • Track record of improving margins, cash flow and operational efficiency.
  • Experience supporting a growing or scaling business.
