Commercial Gas Engineer – Contract Opportunity
Location: Whitley Depot, Coventry
Rate: £30.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Duration To Be Confirmed
Hours: Full Time
DBS: Enhanced DBS Required
Driving Requirement: Full UK Driving Licence Required
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
Coventry City Council is looking for a skilled Commercial Gas Engineer to become part of its Facilities Management team. The role involves reporting to the Facilities M&E Manager and executing planned and emergency maintenance, installations, and repairs across various commercial properties. The position requires working with commercial heating systems, HVAC, boilers, pipework, and related plant systems, ensuring all tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and in line with current legislation and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair commercial gas systems and equipment.
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
- Diagnose and address faults through reactive repairs.
- Install and replace:
- Commercial boilers
- Heating plant
- Pipework systems
- HVAC equipment
- Associated controls and fittings
- Perform testing, commissioning, and system evaluations.
- Monitor energy performance and suggest improvements.
- Ensure adherence to:
- Gas Safety Regulations
- Health & Safety Legislation
- British Standards
- Industry Codes of Practice
- Address urgent reactive maintenance issues.
- Complete plumbing tasks related to heating systems.
- Update CAFM systems and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Prepare quotations and estimates for remedial works.
- Participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.
- Mentor apprentices and trainees as needed.
- Maintain tools, plant, vehicles, and equipment in safe condition.

Essential Requirements
- Commercial Gas Qualifications (essential).
- Current and valid Gas Safe Registration.
- Level 3 Qualification in a relevant trade discipline.
- Experience in a commercial maintenance environment.
- Strong skills in fault-finding and diagnostics.
- Experience with:
- Commercial Boilers
- HVAC Systems
- Commercial Heating Systems
- Combustion Equipment
- Plant Rooms
- Knowledge of gas safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Enhanced DBS Check.

Desirable
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- IPAF Qualification.
- PASMA Qualification.
- Additional commercial gas certifications and accreditations.
- Electrical knowledge or qualifications.
- Experience in Local Authority or public sector environments.
Qualifications
- Approved Apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience.
- Relevant City & Guilds / NVQ / CITB qualification.
- Commercial Gas Qualifications.
- Gas Safe Registration and associated accreditations.
