Build a long-term career — not just your next job
We’re expanding our commercial gas team across Somerset and the South West due to growth on long-term contracts.
Before we get into the day-to-day, here’s what really matters:
Career progression — the real kind
At Sherwoods, progression isn’t rushed and it isn’t based on empty promises.
Several members of our senior leadership team started with us as apprentices. They learned the trade properly, proved themselves over time, and progressed because they were ready — not because of a job title being dangled in front of them.
That’s exactly how we still do things today.
We won’t promise you a supervisor role in three months.
What we will offer is:
- A stable, growing business
- Clear opportunities as the company expands
- Support, training, and trust as you develop
- A long-term career path if you want one

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
