We’re Hiring! Commercial Graduate, Edinburgh City Centre

Are you curious, commercially minded, and excited by the opportunity to learn and grow? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where thinking differently is a natural part of the positive culture? If so, this could be the role for you!

We’re looking for an ambitious individual to join our team as a Commercial Graduate. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your commercial business awareness, build new skills, and gain hands-on experience in a supportive, fast-paced environment.

About Us

InterGen is a uniquely independent energy company, and we understand how important it is to teach you skills for life that will help to power your career. The energy industry is an exciting one that’s always changing in interesting new ways. It’s essential to everyone in their everyday lives, from charging your phone to boiling a kettle! Could you help us continue to supply energy in the UK for generations to come?

A Commercial Graduate Programme

Step into the fast-paced commercial world with our graduate programme – a unique opportunity that will launch your career in the energy industry. You’ll gain a deep understanding of our business, sharpen your commercial instincts, and receive hands-on training from our team of industry experts.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your first twelve months will be focused on building the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in this role. During this time, you will:

  • Start Your InterGen Journey – start your journey with an onboarding experience designed to set you up for success from day one. You’ll discover what we do – how our power stations keep the lights on and the economy moving, meet colleagues from across the business, and gain a real understanding of the culture and values that make InterGen unique.
  • Power Your Knowledge at Powertica – spend time with our sister company Powertica, the energy trading arm of the business. You’ll gain insight into the UK energy market, learn how the power that’s generated by our power stations is traded and develop a practical understanding of trading principles and dispatch decisions.
  • Develop your Analysis & Modelling Skills – we’ll introduce you to financial modelling and help build your commercial analysis capabilities. You’ll learn how to assess opportunities, compare options and support pricing decisions within capacity markets. As your confidence grows, you’ll begin presenting insights and recommendations to stakeholders within the business.
  • Learn, Grow and Build Your Expertise – through tailored training and real-life projects, you’ll start to develop your knowledge of key commercial concepts like tendering processes, Gas Operating Margins and Capacity Market Registers. We’ll help you start to build your ability to analyse information, make recommendations and navigate complex legal and commercial documents. Along the way, we’ll look at proven communication and thinking frameworks which will help you communicate recommendations with clarity and impact.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
