LOCATION: York / Manchester
HOURS: 37 per week
We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Growth Manager on a fixed term basis to lead our commercial growth team and help us deliver sustainable growth in revenue and drive transformational changes to rail ticketing to improve customer confidence.
Playing a key role in Northern’s ambition to grow rail journeys by 30 million by 2030, this is a senior commercial role with real influence. You’ll lead our Product & Pricing, Revenue Management and Sales activity, putting customer insight and demand at the heart of how we make commercial decisions, and influencing across UK Rail to drive change that delivers for customers.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll take ownership of Northern’s Commercial Growth Plan, bringing together our Revenue Management, Product & Pricing and Ancillary Revenue strategies. Working closely with colleagues across Northern and the wider rail industry, you’ll:
- Support the development and delivery of the commercial growth strategy that increases revenue, journeys and yield through smarter product and pricing decisions.
- Put customers and data at the heart of commercial decision-making, using customer insight, demand data and analytical evidence to shape our approach.
- Lead our technical experts in Product & Pricing, Revenue Management and Sales teams, creating a high-performing culture and developing the talent within them.
- Lead Northern’s commercial response to GBR fares reform, representing our interests in industry discussions and making sure changes are understood and embedded across the business.
- Build strong relationships across the rail industry, including GBR, the Rail Delivery Group and other train operators, sharing best practice and bringing new ideas back to Northern.
- Represent Northern at senior industry forums and commercial working groups, influencing decisions and championing the interests of our customers and our business.

What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for a commercially minded leader who can combine strong commercial acumen with the ability to build relationships, influence others and turn complex information into clear decisions.
You’ll have:
- Significant experience of leading a Revenue Management function, ideally within rail, aviation, hotels, car hire or another demand-led industry.
- Strong commercial acumen, with a proven track record of taking new growth ideas from concept to delivery.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to turn data and insight into practical commercial decisions.
- Excellent influencing and collaboration skills, with the confidence to work with senior stakeholders both inside and outside the organisation.
- Experience of leading, developing and mentoring people.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities for a team in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong communication and showcasing skills, including the ability to explain complex commercial or technical subjects simply and clearly.
- The drive to challenge the status quo and drive insight-led improvements for customers.
- A degree-level qualification.
