About the Role
NEW to 2026: this 'old school' commercial practice is now in the driving seat in its own locality and the London market, and is able to fish in both ponds. This hybrid role is for a commercial lawyer likely to already be a partner or a 'super duper' associate. You will come straight into the firm as D1P. You will advise on the usual general commercial contracts, from technology contracts and IT and IP agreements to wider transactional matters, ensuring compliance. You will lead from the front as a new partner and draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, IP licenses and assignments. Importantly, you will have strong expertise and interest in BD and have a real want to do it and get under the skin of the local market. Specifically your d2d responsibilities will include managing portfolios of IP rights, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and licensing agreements. Importantly, you will contribute to business development, build and maintain client relationships, mentor junior lawyers, and collaborate with colleagues across practice areas to provide integrated legal services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
