In ten years we have never employed anyone commercial.

We are a Laravel development agency in Birmingham, a Laravel Premier Partner since 2020, around eleven people, everything built in house. We have grown entirely through reputation and recommendation. We run Laravel London and BrumPHP, publish Artisan Weekly and are properly embedded in the community our clients come from.

That has taken us a long way and now we want to go further.

We are looking for someone to build our commercial function from nothing.

The role

You would own outreach, sales and closing, account management and account growth. In practice that means:

  • Building the pre pipeline layer that does not currently exist, and a reactivation programme for former clients
  • Continuing to build project volume
  • Forming a view on outreach. There are cold approaches which we have traditionally avoided and our instinct has been community first. But we want to be challenged and form a clear view on our outreach strategy moving forward.
  • Building the process, structure and reporting that go with all of it

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

There is no playbook to inherit, no team and no pipeline being handed over. You would be building the function while running it.

Who we are after

We would rather hire someone doing this for the first or second time than someone who has done it five times before. Not about years. It is that a repeat operator tends to arrive with a fixed playbook and install it, and we want someone who will build for us rather than around us.

You will have worked inside a commercial function, can see how it should be done and want the chance to do it your way. You are consultative and patient with long cycles, and you ask for the decision anyway. You bring structure rather than asking for it. You would be comfortable at a Laravel meetup without pitching anyone, and comfortable ringing that person the following week to ask for an introduction.

If you need a marketing team, an SDR or a manager to be effective, this is not the job.

Package

£70,000 to £80,000 base depending on experience.

Commission is paid on contribution margin rather than revenue, above an agreed baseline, measured across the whole company. When most of your opportunities arrive through recommendation, arguing about who sourced a deal is unwinnable, so we do not try. It also means account growth and retention count as much as new business. Uncapped.

UK, Midlands preferred but not essential, with occasional travel to London.

Applying

Send us something that tells us how you would approach the first ninety days. We are more interested in that than in a CV (but send that anyway).

We would rather be honest about where we are than sell you a glossy version of it. If anything above raises questions, ask them early.
