Senior Commercial Director - Companion Diagnostics & Precision Medicine
Location: Hybrid, Europe
Type: Full-time
EPM Scientific is working with a growing European life sciences consultancy to appoint a senior commercial hire focused on companion diagnostics and precision medicine. This is a newly created position reflecting continued growth in the CDx space, with responsibility for developing and closing multi-service engagements with pharmaceutical sponsors and diagnostic technology companies.
The opportunity
A genuinely senior, strategic commercial role rather than a transactional sales seat, you'll influence how the business positions itself in the CDx and precision medicine market, including target accounts, proposition and partnerships.
- Deals typically span several service areas (regulatory, clinical, quality, laboratory support) rather than single, isolated projects, so you'll work closely with technical specialists to shape client solutions
- You'll join an established commercial team rather than operate solo, with shared accounts and close collaboration across colleagues
- Access to a substantial in-house technical bench across regulatory affairs, quality, clinical and laboratory functions, spanning multiple European countries

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What the role involves
- Identifying client needs and building tailored, multi-service proposals rather than responding to fixed-scope requests
- Developing relationships on both sides of the diagnostic development chain, pharmaceutical/biotech sponsors and diagnostic/testing technology providers; and connecting the two where relevant
- Advising clients through the practical regulatory and commercial questions that typically slow diagnostic co-development programmes down (classification routes, regulatory body engagement, approval timing, and validation strategy across major markets)
- Managing a client base that spans Europe, the US and increasingly Asia-Pacific, operating from a European base with regular travel
- Monitoring regulatory and market developments and translating them into new business opportunities
- Maintaining accurate pipeline reporting and realistic forecasting given the longer nature of these sales cycles
- Contributing to internal proposition development and mentoring less experienced commercial colleagues
- Representing the business at relevant industry conferences and regulatory forums
- Attending the European head office periodically for team and strategy sessions; exact base location within Europe is flexible

- A track record of selling complex, multi-stakeholder solutions rather than standardised products or services

- Working knowledge of both European and US regulatory frameworks for diagnostics; awareness of Asia-Pacific requirements is an advantage
- A master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
