Location: Nottingham
Salary: £90,000 - £110,000
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead - MEP to provide commercial and contractual leadership across a diverse portfolio of MEP projects. Reporting into senior leadership, this is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to shape commercial strategy, drive project performance, and lead the development of a growing commercial team.
This position is ideal for a commercially astute professional with a strong background in the M&E/MEP sector who can combine strategic leadership with hands-on commercial management across complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead commercial advisor on all project commercial and contractual matters.
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Senior, Project, and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, alongside Commercial Administration staff.
- Advise Project Management teams on commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Negotiate contracts and contract amendments to establish balanced and commercially beneficial agreements.
- Maximise project profitability and revenue while controlling costs and mitigating commercial risk.
- Monitor and maintain project cash flow through effective management of applications, certifications, and invoicing.
- Prepare and review monthly budgets, forecasts, cash flow reports, and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Review tender documentation and undertake commercial viability and risk assessments.
- Lead tender and project reviews, escalating significant risks where appropriate.
- Oversee strategic and operational risk management across all projects.
- Lead contract negotiations and coordinate legal reviews where required.
- Ensure subcontractors and suppliers are procured and managed in line with company procedures.
- Prepare and issue Letters of Intent and contractual correspondence.
- Negotiate performance bonds, parent company guarantees, and insurance provisions.
- Manage commercial claims from initial notification through to final resolution.
- Review, validate, and negotiate final accounts.
- Chair commercial review meetings and ensure robust project reporting and governance.
- Manage commercial team resources and identify recruitment requirements.
- Represent the business at both internal and external commercial and project meetings.

Essential Experience & Skills
- Demonstrable commercial leadership experience within the M&E or MEP contracting sector.
- Strong knowledge of commercial management, contract administration, and risk management.
- Proven experience managing project profitability, reporting, and cash flow.
- Experience undertaking commercial reviews, tender assessments, and contractual negotiations.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making ability, with a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced and high-value project environments.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

About You
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline, or qualified through extensive industry experience.
- Proven track record leading and developing commercial teams.
- Experience establishing and improving commercial management and reporting systems.
- Commercially focused with the ability to balance strategic decision-making and operational delivery.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Highly motivated, collaborative, and committed to achieving successful project outcomes.
- Strong understanding of commercial governance, compliance, and financial controls.
