Role Purpose
To provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across the business, with a primary focus on commercial contracts, customer and supplier agreements and contractual risk.
Working closely with stakeholders across the business, the role will provide clear and pragmatic legal guidance, support effective contract management, and help the business manage legal and commercial risk while achieving its objectives.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a commercially minded lawyer who can provide clear, pragmatic advice and act as a trusted legal partner to the business. You will be comfortable working independently, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives, and engaging directly with stakeholders across the organisation. The role has a strong focus on commercial contracting and providing practical legal support across the business’s day to day activities.
This role can be performed either remotely or from our Exeter office. The part time working pattern is flexible, with hours and days to be agreed by mutual discussion.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Contracting & Deal Support
- Act as the primary legal partner to the sales and account management teams, supporting new customer deals, upsells and expansions, and renewals through to signature.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer and supplier agreements, non-disclosure agreements, trading terms and terms and conditions, and partnership and reseller/channel agreements.
- Advise on key contractual provisions, including liability (and appropriate caps and carve-outs), warranties, indemnities, service levels, termination, confidentiality, assignment, and compliance.
- Identify risks and gaps in customer contracts against agreed standard terms, playbooks, and standard operating procedures, and provide clear, pragmatic guidance on where to hold and where to concede.
- Support negotiations directly with customers and their legal teams where required, balancing legal protection with commercial relationships.
- Own and improve standard customer templates, fallback positions, and the customer contracting process to enable faster, more consistent deals as the business scales

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
