Commercial Litigation Associate | 1 to 6 Years PQE | International Firm | Manchester
A rare chance to be a key figure in a small, bespoke Commercial Litigation team while standing on the platform of a large international firm. The team is deliberately compact, which means visibility, ownership and a realistic route upwards rather than a queue of senior lawyers ahead of you.
The Firm
A large international firm with a substantial UK presence and a significant Manchester office, which serves as the firm's largest and most important regional base outside of London. What makes this role unusual is the shape of the team. Commercial Litigation here is a specialist, boutique-style practice operating inside a firm of significant scale, meaning you get the autonomy and visibility of a small team alongside the clients and resources of a large one.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The firm's international network brings a dimension that most regional litigation practices cannot match, with cross-border disputes, internationally connected clients and complex multi-jurisdictional matters sitting alongside a strong domestic caseload.
The Role
You will advise an impressive client base on a broad range of commercial disputes from the Manchester office, taking real ownership of your matters from an early stage. In a team of this size that responsibility arrives quickly rather than in stages, and your contribution will be obvious to the people who decide on promotions.

The caseload spans the full breadth of commercial disputes work including contractual disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, professional negligence claims, fraud and asset recovery, injunction and urgent interim relief applications, insolvency related litigation and High Court and appellate work with a cross-border dimension.
You will work closely with colleagues across the firm's wider practice areas on matters where litigation intersects with corporate, real estate or regulatory issues, with real scope to develop your own client relationships and profile in the Manchester market as you grow within the role.
