Commercial Litigation Partner | Leadership Opportunity | Remote/East Sussex

Salary: £100,000 - £120,000+ DOE

Hybrid Working | Flexible Office Attendance

This is an opportunity to shape the future of a successful Litigation department.

A respected, long-established Sussex firm is looking to appoint a Commercial Litigation Partner to take on a genuine leadership position following the planned retirement of the current Head of Department.

The team has an excellent reputation, a strong existing client base and is highly profitable. The opportunity now is for someone who wants to lead from the front, develop the team and play a key role in the firm's continued growth.

The Role

  • You will handle a varied Commercial Litigation caseload, while leading and developing a department covering a broad range of commercial dispute resolution.
  • There is already a strong pipeline of work, with the team currently turning instructions away due to capacity.
  • You'll work alongside experienced lawyers and an exceptional litigation paralegal, helping mentor the next generation while bringing strategic direction to the department.
  • Contentious Construction experience would be beneficial but is by no means essential.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Opportunity

This role would suit:

  • An existing Litigation Partner looking for greater autonomy.
  • A Legal Director or Senior Associate ready to step into Partnership.
  • Someone who enjoys building teams and developing people, not simply managing a caseload.

The firm is looking for someone commercially minded who enjoys business development and is keen to help shape the future direction of the department.

A following is welcomed but not essential. Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to generate new work over time are far more important.
