Commercial Manager – Defence
Bristol, Bath, Barnstaple | Hybrid/Flexible Working | Up to £70,000
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a growing defence and engineering organisation, supporting major programmes and working across current and future platforms.
This is a key commercial position, working closely with project management, engineering, procurement, and wider stakeholders to deliver compliant bids and successfully manage complex customer and supplier contracts.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the commercial management of major defence programmes, including:
- Negotiating and agreeing customer contracts and commercial agreements
- Drafting, negotiating, and agreeing sub-contracts and complex procurement agreements
- Acting as a key commercial point of contact for customers
- Managing the commercial relationship with sub-contractors and suppliers
- Coordinating contract reviews for new projects
- Supporting bid preparation and commercial negotiations
- Providing commercial input across the full contract lifecycle
- Working closely with technical, project, and procurement teams to ensure contractual compliance

About You
We’re looking for an experienced commercial professional with a background in defence, aerospace, engineering, manufacturing, or naval environments.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong experience managing defence-related contracts
- Experience working with Government/MOD procurement
- A strong understanding of contracts, T&Cs, and contracting methodologies
- Experience with pricing, negotiation, and bid preparation
- Knowledge of through-life support and customer contracts
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience managing or leading teams
- A background in commercial sales transactions and complex negotiations
- Experience working within the Defence or Aerospace sector
- A qualification in contract law or a law degree would be desirable.
