Commercial Manager
Nottingham, UK
Talented people are the key to our success.
We are looking for an ambitious and motivated Commercial Manager to join our team, supporting the delivery of a major infrastructure project valued at approximately £45 million. This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in a high-profile project, taking it from the final stages of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through construction delivery and handover to the customer.
Initially, you will focus on supporting the project's ECI phase as it transitions into delivery. As works progress on site, you will take a key commercial leadership role, helping to drive successful project outcomes while supporting the continued growth and success of the wider framework.
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager and working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will be responsible for leading commercial activities, managing project performance, and ensuring robust commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact whilst leading and developing a high-performing commercial team.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, including direct line management of Senior Quantity Surveyors.
- Mentor, coach, and develop commercial team members, setting objectives and supporting career development.
- Oversee the commercial performance of projects and contracts delivered under the framework.
- Ensure accurate financial forecasting, reporting, and commercial governance across all project activities.
- Manage and review monthly reporting processes, including client reporting, Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cost management, change management, and cash flow reporting.
- Administer and manage subcontractor packages in line with contractual requirements and company procedures.
- Monitor project and subcontractor performance against programme, budget, and commercial objectives.
- Lead commercial risk management activities and provide strategic commercial advice to project delivery teams.
- Ensure effective contract administration, maximising value through change management and minimising exposure to commercial risk.
- Implement and continuously improve commercial systems, reporting procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Produce executive-level reports, commercial performance summaries, and business insights.
- Support business planning through robust forecasting and data-driven decision making.
- Contribute to succession planning and the ongoing development of commercial capability within the team.
- Work collaboratively with project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Promote and maintain compliance with company standards, health and safety requirements, and industry best practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
