The Opportunity
OCU is delivering major electrical infrastructure, substation, and grid connection projects that are helping to support the UK's evolving energy network. As a Commercial Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in driving commercial performance across a portfolio of projects delivered through long-term framework agreements.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of commercial strategy from tender stage through to final account, working closely with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners. If you enjoy influencing business performance, managing complex NEC contracts, and helping deliver critical infrastructure projects, this role offers both challenge and long-term career development.
What You'll Do
- Lead commercial strategy and cost management across a portfolio of infrastructure and power projects.
- Manage NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are effectively administered and protected.
- Drive cost forecasting, budgeting, and reporting to support strong commercial performance.
- Oversee the management of Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events, and contractual change processes.
- Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, performance, and final account settlement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project teams, and key stakeholders.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities, implementing strategies to protect and enhance project outcomes.
- Support, mentor, and develop members of the commercial team to drive performance and capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
