Commercial Manager

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Commercial Manager to join our team, supporting the delivery of a major infrastructure project valued at approximately £45 million. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role throughout the entire project lifecycle, from the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) stage through construction delivery and final handover.
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you will lead commercial activities across a high-profile project while working closely with operational and project delivery teams to drive performance, maximise value, manage risk, and ensure successful project outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on project success while contributing to the continued growth and development of a leading infrastructure framework.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial function for a major infrastructure project through pre-construction, delivery, and handover phases.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial professionals.
- Manage the commercial performance of contracts, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and effective financial control.
- Oversee forecasting, budgeting, cost management, cash flow reporting, and commercial performance reporting.
- Lead change management activities, ensuring opportunities for value recovery are identified and maximised.
- Manage subcontract procurement, administration, and performance in line with contractual and business requirements.
- Monitor project performance against programme, budget, and commercial objectives.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to project and operational teams to support informed decision-making.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure contract administration activities are undertaken effectively and in accordance with relevant contract requirements.
- Produce and present clear commercial reports, forecasts, and performance updates for senior stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes, systems, reporting, and governance.
- Support business planning through the provision of accurate commercial data, insights, and analysis.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers and delivery teams to support successful project execution.
- Promote best practice, compliance, health and safety standards, and commercial excellence across the project.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership with RICS (MRICS) is preferred.
- Experience leading commercial teams within infrastructure, utilities, engineering, or construction environments.
- Strong commercial management experience across complex projects and programmes.
- Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts, including compensation events, early warnings, change management, and contract administration.
- Experience managing both main contracts and subcontract agreements.
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, cash management, and commercial reporting processes.
- Experience producing Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), client reporting, and financial performance reports.
- Ability to analyse complex commercial and project data and present clear recommendations to stakeholders.
- Strong financial, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Experience implementing commercial controls, governance processes, and reporting frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other commercial reporting tools.
- Experience using COINS or similar commercial management systems.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative project environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience within highly regulated sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, utilities, or energy would be advantageous.

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
