We are looking for an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager to join our team, supporting the delivery of a major electricity transmission project. This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to take ownership of all commercial aspects of a significant infrastructure scheme and play a vital role in its successful delivery.
As the commercial lead for the project, you will provide strategic direction, drive commercial performance, and lead a dedicated commercial team. Working closely with operational and project delivery teams, you will help ensure the project is delivered efficiently, profitably, and in line with contractual obligations. This role offers long-term project involvement, excellent career development opportunities, and the chance to contribute to critical energy infrastructure.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead all commercial activities across the project, ensuring effective management of cost, value, risk, and opportunity.
- Function as the commercial lead, providing strategic commercial direction and support to the wider project team.
- Manage, develop, and mentor members of the commercial team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Drive commercial performance and ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Oversee cost planning, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting activities.
- Manage subcontract procurement, administration, and commercial performance.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company procedures, and governance processes.
- Lead commercial negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Produce and present commercial reports and project performance updates to senior stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with project, operational, and support teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Support the development and implementation of commercial strategies throughout the project lifecycle.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Extensive experience in a commercial management role within the construction, infrastructure, or utilities sectors.
- Proven experience leading commercial teams on major infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial management principles, including cost control, forecasting, valuation, and reporting.
- Experience managing complex contracts and commercial relationships.
- Exceptional understanding of risk and opportunity management.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to influence decision-making and provide commercial guidance at project and senior management level.
- Experience working within a Tier 1 contracting environment.
- An initiative-taking and solutions-focused approach to project delivery and commercial performance.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience working on electricity transmission, power, utilities, or energy infrastructure projects.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
