We are seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager to join our Energy team, supporting the delivery of the Scottish Power Framework and the flagship DWNO project. This significant infrastructure programme includes new overhead line construction, upgrades to existing overhead line assets, and substation extension and improvement works across Falkirk and North Lanarkshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused professional looking to further develop their career within a high-profile project environment. You will play a key role in driving commercial performance, managing risk, and supporting the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced operational, design, and project teams.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of projects to maximise profitability and performance.
- Manage all commercial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-contract through to final account.
- Support the development and implementation of commercial strategies aligned with business and project objectives.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Function as a key commercial contact for clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with client commercial teams and project partners.
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, legal obligations, corporate governance standards, and company procedures.
- Oversee cost management, forecasting, cost value reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Manage compensation events, claims, variations, and change control processes.
- Support tendering, pricing, procurement, and other pre-construction commercial activities.
- Provide commercial guidance and support to project and operational teams.
- Drive continuous improvement of commercial processes, systems, and best practices.
- Support supply chain engagement, performance management, and commercial outcomes.
- Contribute to a collaborative culture focused on performance, customer satisfaction, and successful project delivery.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
- Experience in a Commercial Manager role within infrastructure, utilities, energy, civil engineering, or construction environments.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC4 contracts.
- Experience managing the commercial delivery of large and complex projects.
- Experience leading, managing, or mentoring commercial teams.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent negotiation and risk management skills.
- Experience using commercial management systems such as COINS and CEMAR.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial management, reporting, and forecasting abilities.
Desirable
- Professional chartership with RICS or CIArb.
- NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation.
- Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor.
- Experience within the energy, utilities, transmission, distribution, or substation sectors.
- Experience collaborating with design partners, consultants, or design teams.
- An initiative-taking approach to continuous improvement and commercial excellence.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
