Freedom's Large Capital Delivery team is looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to support the delivery of a major framework with Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SSEN).
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing business at the forefront of the UK's energy transition, playing a key role in the commercial leadership of large-scale infrastructure projects across the North of Scotland and the Scottish Islands. Working closely with operational, project and client teams, you'll be responsible for protecting commercial performance, managing contractual obligations and ensuring successful delivery across a diverse portfolio of high-value projects.
If you're an experienced commercial professional with a strong background in utilities, infrastructure or major project delivery and are looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a leading organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
About The Role
As Commercial Manager, you'll lead the commercial management of Freedom's role on the SSEN Large Capital Delivery Framework, supporting the delivery of underground cable, substation and overhead line projects across the region.
The role will see you take ownership of commercial governance, framework compliance, contract administration, change management, forecasting, cash flow and stakeholder engagement, ensuring commercial risks are effectively managed while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading commercial management activities across framework and call-off contracts.
- Managing NEC contractual processes, including Early Warnings, Compensation Events, programme reviews and payment applications.
- Supporting commercial input into feasibility, design and construction stages of projects.

- Leading client-facing commercial engagement and negotiations.
- Maintaining effective commercial controls across supply chain partners and subcontractors.
- Supporting dispute avoidance, claim management and commercial risk mitigation.
- Driving commercial governance, compliance and audit readiness across the framework.
- Providing leadership and support to project and commercial teams.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across commercial processes and controls.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
