The Opportunity
Due to continued growth and project demand, our client is seeking a Commercial Manager to support the commercial and financial management of a diverse portfolio of engineering and project delivery contracts. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional to work closely with senior leadership, project teams, finance and procurement functions, playing a key role in ensuring strong commercial governance, financial control and project performance. The successful candidate will contribute to contract management, forecasting, reporting, cost control and continuous improvement activities across multiple projects. In return, you will gain exposure to complex project environments, work with a collaborative and experienced team and can further develop your commercial and financial management skills.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Lead the commercial and financial management of projects from inception through to close out
- Provide visibility of contract financial performance through the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Support the delivery of robust contract controls and governance processes
- Conduct audits and commercial reviews to identify performance improvements and opportunities
- Ensure effective financial controls are implemented and maintained
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and commercial governance requirements
- Support project and operational teams in achieving contract performance objectives and financial targets
- Liaise with project management, finance, procurement, tendering and operational teams
- Review and monitor contract terms and conditions to ensure compliance
- Review client invoices for accuracy and completeness prior to submission
- Assist with contract valuations, applications for payment and financial reporting activities
- Support the identification and management of contract variations and change
- Prepare and analyse cost and value reports
- Implement and maintain effective cost monitoring and control mechanisms
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes and ensure the integrity of financial information

You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or similar commercial leadership role
- Experience managing the financial and commercial performance of projects and contracts
- Strong understanding of contract management and commercial governance principles
- Experience developing and reviewing project budgets, forecasts and cost reports
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts and project financial reports
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Experience working within a fast paced project delivery environment
- Ability to analyse financial information and provide meaningful commercial insight
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver to challenging deadlines
- Finance degree, commercial qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems

- Experience within engineering, industrial, manufacturing, energy or infrastructure sectors
- Experience supporting major projects or programmes
- Progress towards a recognised accounting or commercial qualification
- Experience with claims management and contract change processes
- Knowledge of project controls and performance reporting methodologies
- Experience driving process improvements and standardisation initiatives
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments
The setting for the role
This role is based onsite in Hull and operates within a busy engineering and project delivery environment. You will work closely with project managers, project controls specialists, operational teams, finance professionals and procurement teams to ensure commercial excellence across multiple projects and contracts. The position offers a high degree of responsibility, stakeholder engagement and the opportunity to directly influence project performance, profitability and business success.
