Commercial Manager – Major Civil Infrastructure

Sydney, Australia | UK Relocation Opportunity | Highly Competitive Salary

Are you an experienced Commercial Manager with strong NEC contract experience considering a move to Australia?

An opportunity is available to join a leading multinational infrastructure contractor in Sydney, taking a senior commercial position across major civil infrastructure projects.

With a strong pipeline of complex infrastructure work across Australia, the business is specifically looking to attract an experienced commercial professional from the UK/Ireland market who can bring extensive NEC contractual knowledge, strong commercial leadership and major project experience to its Australian operations.

A comprehensive relocation package is available for the successful candidate, alongside a highly competitive salary package.

The Role

As Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for the commercial and contractual performance of the project, working closely with senior project leadership to protect commercial outcomes, manage risk and maximise project performance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the commercial and contractual strategy across major infrastructure projects
  • Managing project financial performance, forecasting, cash flow, cost control and revenue
  • Managing projects operating under NEC contracts
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • Managing head contract obligations and ensuring contractual compliance
  • Leading subcontract procurement, administration, negotiation and close-out
  • Managing variations, compensation events, claims, contractual negotiations and disputes
  • Providing commercial and contractual advice to Project Directors and senior project leadership
  • Leading and developing Contract Administrators, Quantity Surveyors and wider commercial teams
  • Supporting monthly project reviews, forecasting and financial reporting
  • Driving commercial best practice and consistent commercial governance

About You:

We are interested in speaking with senior commercial professionals currently working within the UK civil engineering and infrastructure market who are open to relocating to Sydney.

To be considered, you must have:

  • Strong NEC contract experience – essential
  • 10+ years' commercial experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or major projects
  • Experience operating at Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager or equivalent level
  • Strong understanding of NEC contractual mechanisms, including compensation events, early warnings and programme-related commercial obligations
  • Proven experience in forecasting, cost reporting, commercial risk and project financial performance
  • Strong claims, negotiation and dispute resolution capability
  • Experience managing and developing commercial teams
  • Excellent commercial acumen and the ability to influence senior operational and project leadership
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Law, Finance or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience
