Managing Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering

Exeter | South West

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join an established civil engineering contractor with a strong and growing workload across the South West.

Based from Exeter, this is a senior commercial role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial function across a portfolio of civil engineering projects, working closely with operational teams and providing leadership and support to the wider commercial team.

The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial performance of projects from procurement through to final account. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting the commercial team
  • Commercial management of civil engineering projects
  • Cost control, forecasting and reporting
  • Managing subcontract procurement and accounts
  • Contract administration and commercial strategy
  • Identifying and managing commercial risk
  • Working closely with operational and project teams
  • Client and stakeholder management
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects across the region

About You

We are keen to hear from Managing Quantity Surveyors or experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors ready to make the next step.

You will ideally have:

  • A strong background within civil engineering or infrastructure
  • Previous experience managing the commercial delivery of projects
  • Good working knowledge of construction contracts, ideally including NEC
  • Experience supporting, managing or developing other members of a commercial team
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • The confidence to work closely with senior operational and client teams
  • A relevant commercial / Quantity Surveying qualification or equivalent industry experience
