Commercial Manager – Engineering Projects

Cardiff, South Wales | Office Based

£50,000 + £5,000 Car Allowance + Bonus & Benefits

Are you a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager who enjoys being close to the delivery of technically complex projects?

Eaton Syalon are exclusively partnering with an established and growing engineering organisation to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager into a key position within its Technical Operations team.

Internally titled Contract Manager – Technical Operations, this is a hands-on commercial role where you’ll work directly alongside Project Managers, engineers and operational teams, taking ownership of project commercial performance from contract award through to final account.

The business operates across complex engineering and infrastructure environments, including power generation, marine, energy and heavy industry.

This isn’t a role where you’ll be sitting on the sidelines simply reporting the numbers. You’ll be embedded within project delivery – protecting margin, challenging where needed, identifying commercial risk early and making sure the business is commercially protected throughout the project lifecycle.

What will you be doing?

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
