Job Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager to support a major Naval Combat Systems programme on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential extension. This is an excellent opportunity to take the commercial lead on a strategically important international programme, managing customer relationships, contract changes, claims, governance activities, obligations management and commercial risk within a complex defence environment.
- Location: Portsmouth / New Malden / Filton / Frimley / Dorchester
- Mode: Hybrid, 1-3 days onsite
- Hourly Rate: Flexible payrate from £49.38 per hour PAYE (In Scope IR35)
- Contract Length: 6 Months
- Working Hours: 37.5-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
- Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Commercial Lead across a major Naval Systems programme
- Manage key customer relationships and provide commercial guidance to project teams and stakeholders
- Lead contract change activities, claims management, obligations management and programme dependency management
- Draft, review and negotiate complex contractual terms, conditions and associated agreements
- Support business-winning activities, commercial management plans and bid approval processes
- Ensure compliance with commercial governance frameworks, internal approvals and contractual obligations
- Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks whilst supporting profitable programme delivery

Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Contracts Manager, Commercial Lead or similar commercial/contracts professional
- Experience managing large, complex, interdependent and/or international contracts and programmes
- Strong background in contract management, contract change, claims management, commercial governance and stakeholder engagement
- Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex contractual terms and agreements
- Strong commercial acumen, financial awareness, negotiation skills and problem-solving capability
- Experience within risk & opportunity management, international contracting and customer relationship management
- Knowledge of intellectual property considerations, contractual obligations and commercial governance processes
- Ability to work autonomously, influence stakeholders and deliver commercially sound outcomes
- Degree educated in Law, Business or a related discipline, and/or a minimum of 5 years' recent experience in a front-facing operational commercial role

Additional Information
Security Requirements: Candidates must be SC Cleared, SC Eligible, BPSS Cleared, BPSS Eligible, currently progressing through SC Clearance, or hold/be eligible to obtain an equivalent transferable UK security clearance. Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
