Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

About The Role

The Commercial Specialist executes a range of workstreams in delivering large and complex commercial and contract processes, managing and monitoring major deals across the BT Group’s services and product portfolio, managing risk and controlling cost.

You’ll be responsible for managing contractual risk, obligations, and commercial performance across a defined area of our specialist business unit. This includes ensuring we deliver on our commitments to customers, maintain sustainable and profitable contracts, and identify opportunities for growth and renewal. You’ll act as the central point of contact for all contractual and commercial matters within your remit, working closely with customers and internal teams to drive value and long-term success.

This job role can be based in Ipswich, Cheltenham, London or Manchester. Hybrid (3 days office based & 2 days remote). Mon-Fri 37.5. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as an interface for customers on all contractual and commercial matters, building trusted relationships at executive level.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of contractual commitments, driving revenue growth, cost control, and overall contract profitability.
  • Manage contractual obligations, risks, and compliance within governance frameworks, ensuring issues are proactively identified and mitigated.
  • Support negotiations, renewals, and change control, ensuring agreements are commercially robust and operationally achievable.
  • Identify and unlock growth opportunities within existing accounts, partnering with Client Partners and delivery teams to expand value.

  • Proven experience in contract management or commercial operations
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of contractual frameworks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior customers
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage complex contractual information

Required Skills (Desirable)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Experience working on large, complex or high-value contracts
  • Understanding of risk management, governance, and compliance frameworks
  • Experience influencing commercial strategy or deal shaping
  • Knowledge of contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools or system
