Commercial Manager

MMP Consultancy is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager for a permanent opportunity based in South East London. This position offers a salary of £63,000 plus a 10% market uplift for the first year, with a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days in the office and 3 days from home, subject to business requirements.

Working within a social housing maintenance environment, you'll take ownership of the commercial function, managing a team of Quantity Surveyors and ensuring contracts deliver maximum value and commercial performance. This is a leadership role focused on contractor management, commercial governance, cost control, and supporting the successful delivery of DLO and outsourced maintenance works.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors across maintenance and planned works contracts.
  • Ensure robust commercial controls are in place across all projects and workstreams.
  • Oversee cost management, valuations, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Drive value for money and commercial performance across DLO and contractor-delivered works.
  • Manage contractor relationships and challenge performance where necessary.
  • Review and approve contractual claims, variations, and final accounts.
  • Support procurement and contract management activities.
  • Monitor budgets and expenditure, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Provide commercial advice and guidance to operational and senior management teams.
  • Ensure contractual compliance and adherence to organisational procedures.
  • Develop and improve commercial processes, controls, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Support the delivery of business objectives through effective commercial management.

  • Strong experience in a Commercial Manager or senior Quantity Surveying position.
  • Experience managing and developing Quantity Surveying teams.
  • Background within social housing, property maintenance, construction, or a Tier 1 contractor environment.
  • Strong understanding of repairs, maintenance, DLO operations, and contractor management.
  • Proven experience delivering value for money and commercial efficiencies.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract administration, cost control, and financial management.
  • Experience managing contractor performance and commercial risk.
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and make commercially sound decisions.
  • Good understanding of relevant construction and commercial regulations.
  • Professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline would be advantageous.
