Commercial Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join their manufacturing site near Desborough, Northants.

The Commercial Manager is accountable for developing and driving the commercial agenda for the company. The role will be required to achieve the budgeted sales volume, ensuring cost and margin management in line with the company 5 year plan.

Responsibilities as Commercial Manager

  • To deliver excellent negotiation strategies and effective selling plans/campaigns to deliver agreed forecasts, setting clear objectives for all customer meetings and conversations.
  • Generate and lead agreed projects linking the business to customers in generating new and enhanced business to volume improve and profitability.
  • Drive sales volume and value across the product range to balance the usage from the mill, with the ability to identify opportunities as they present themselves.
  • Manage, retain and grow the agreed list of customers, representing the business with the external market, developing and maintaining relationships at all levels whilst being aware of customer needs and competitor activity.
  • Deliver the sales budget/forecast by account with clear negotiation strategies. Monitor and report individual financial forecast in terms of sales and margin on a monthly basis and ensure plans to protect negative deviation.
  • In line with the agreed commercial strategy, develop new business opportunities with existing and new customers, whilst creating proactive and sustainable relationships.
  • Recognise new market trends and competitor activity and ensure these are embedded in the business strategic planning process. Develop strategies for entry into new target markets.

Requirements as Commercial Manager

  • Self-starter with relevant sales experience; ability to demonstrate winning new contracts with B2B customers and being able to articulate the process and levers they have used to capture scale contracts and opportunities.
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent listening skills to ensure we are focused around understanding and delivering client expectations.
  • Hunger for success and an inquisitive nature enabling them to proactively identify and create opportunities as well as understanding market dynamics.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to forecast sales realistically using data and market conditions for setting personal goals that drive required business growth.
  • Possess analytical skills to analyse performance metrics to make validated decisions and highlight opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Demonstrate negotiation skills, ability to think clearly and rapidly under pressure.
  • Experience of building/developing a business which has industry leading behaviours and results.
  • Operates with integrity and responsibility, consistently demonstrating ethical decision making focused on people and our service to customers.
  • Be able to develop company sales strategy.
