Commercial Manager - Construction
đ Derbyshire / East Midlands

đ Significant Leadership Progression
Are you an ambitious Commercial Manager who wants to do more than simply manage the numbers?
Iâm partnering with a successful, privately owned property and development group to appoint a Commercial Manager into its growing construction business.
The construction business is already established, profitable and delivering projects successfully, with a significant pipeline of work behind it. The ambition now is to take the next step â growing its external client base, securing more third-party work and developing the operation into a larger, increasingly independent construction business.
They need someone who wants to help make that happen.
The Role
Youâll take a hands-on role across the commercial management of industrial, logistics and commercial construction projects, including:
- Commercial management from pre-construction through to final account
- Procurement, subcontractor management and contract administration
- Valuations, variations, forecasting and cost reporting
- Estimating, tendering and supporting bids for new work
- Working closely with operational teams to maximise project performance
- Managing two direct reports
- Developing relationships with clients, consultants and the wider property market
- Identifying and helping secure new third-party opportunities
- Working directly with the leadership team to help shape the future of the construction business
Reasons to use Rodeo
Iâm in my final year doing Economics and I donât know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer â it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donât need a masters. Letâs look at the ones youâd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet â that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your background could be Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or potentially Contracts Manager. Our client is open-minded, focussing on finding the right blend of skills. More important than your exact job title is your mindset.
Youâll need strong construction commercial experience, but weâre particularly interested in someone who is:
- Commercially astute and entrepreneurial

- Proactive rather than reactive
- Credible and confident with clients
- Comfortable networking and developing new relationships
- Interested in winning work as well as delivering it

The client described their priority as âattitude, not aptitudeâ â character, trust, drive and the desire to make things happen are fundamental to this appointment.
Why consider it?
This isn't a role where youâll disappear into a large commercial team and manage your allocated projects.
Youâll be joining a business where you can have genuine influence.
Youâll work directly with the owners, have considerable autonomy and play an important role in taking an already successful construction operation through its next stage of growth.
For the right individual, there is a very real opportunity to progress into senior leadership and potentially lead the construction business in the future.
If youâre commercially strong but feel frustrated by the confines of your current role and believe youâre capable of considerably more, Iâd particularly like to hear from you.
