We're looking for a Commercial Manager to join our Scotland team based in Stepps.

Location: Stepps, Scotland (Hybrid) – Regional role that will require regular travel to sites and 3rd party locations and occasional overnights

Hours: 40 per week – some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

About the Role

Kier Construction has a strong track record in delivering projects from £10M to £100M+. We work with a wide range of clients across the public and private sectors, delivering key assets for communities such as schools, healthcare facilities, leisure centres, and commercial buildings. A rare opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join our Scotland team in a senior role, overseeing circa £60M–£70M of turnover per annum. Managing a team of circa 20 people, you will ensure that commercial resources are aligned with business needs, staff are being developed, and that management staff are empowered to effectively oversee their designated projects and achieve regional business targets.


What Will You Be Responsible For?

As a Commercial Manager, you'll be working within the Scotland team, supporting them in achieving commercial excellence and regional business objectives. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Ensuring the commercial performance of contracts through effective management of commercial staff and resources, understanding contract conditions, and implementing risk management strategies
  • Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to advise on commercial strategy, ensuring successful conversion of opportunities and profitability
  • Producing, collating, and ratifying high-level consolidated cost and expenditure reports across projects for presentation to board level
  • Managing a team of commercial staff, identifying talent and training needs, allocating resources, and ensuring staff development through mentorship and support
  • Overseeing the monthly valuation process for the region, reviewing contractor and supplier claims, and finalising contractor accounts and contract close-outs

What Are We Looking For?

This role of Commercial Manager is great for you if:

  • You have a formal qualification (RICS, Degree, or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
  • You can demonstrate experience in a senior commercial capacity within a Tier 1 main contracting environment, managing teams of significant size
  • You have excellent overall contractual awareness with strong understanding of NEC and JCT conditions, arbitration, and adjudication processes
  • You have a strong commercial reporting track record, with the ability to produce accurate board-level reports outlining the business commercial position, risks, and opportunities
  • You have experience in developing and implementing wider commercial strategies to drive work winning, business unit growth, and profitability
