Commercial Manager

Location: Stevenage
Salary: Circa £62,000 - £70,000 depending on experience
Working Model: Hybrid, 2 to 3 days per week on-site
Security: British Citizen or Dual UK national

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading international defence organisation, taking ownership of commercial activity across a portfolio of high-value domestic contracts.

This is a broad commercial role covering the full contract lifecycle, from supporting bids and developing commercial strategies through to negotiation, contract delivery, amendments and close-out. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, project teams, customers and partners, playing a key role in protecting the organisation’s commercial interests.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead commercial activity across the full bid-to-contract and contract lifecycle.
  • Develop and negotiate commercial proposals, contracts, agreements and terms and conditions.
  • Take ownership of the commercial aspects of bids, working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust proposals.
  • Lead contract negotiations and resolve complex commercial issues with customers and partners.
  • Oversee contracts throughout delivery, ensuring obligations, milestones and contractual requirements are managed effectively.
  • Manage contract amendments, deliverables, documentation and eventual contract closure.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Provide commercial guidance to senior internal stakeholders and project teams.
  • Act as a key commercial point of contact with customers and external partners.
  • Support the resolution of contractual disputes alongside legal and other specialist functions.
  • Ensure contracts comply with relevant legislation, governance and defence requirements, including ITAR and EAR.
  • Provide senior management with updates on bids, contracts, risks and commercial performance.
  • Lead and develop more junior members of the commercial team.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven commercial experience within the defence sector.
  • Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Understanding of the full commercial lifecycle, from business winning and bidding through to contract delivery and closure.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple contracts and priorities in a complex environment.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with confidence engaging senior stakeholders and customers.
  • Strategic and commercially minded, with an understanding of business growth and international markets.
  • Previous leadership or line management experience.
  • Knowledge of MoD contracting, including DEFCONs and QDCs, would be advantageous.
